Lakewood, CO–The Grainger Foundation, an independent, private foundation based in Lake Forest Illinois, has donated $18,000 to Red Rocks Community College Foundation in support of its mission to provide RRCC students with opportunities for growth and development that set the foundation for self-directed learning, academic achievement, and career accomplishment.
“This grant will be used to support RRCC’s Fine Woodworking program purchase computers to train students how to program CNC machines, and it will also supply a programmable logic controller for our Cyber Security program,” said Dr. Lisa Fowler, Vice President for Student Success, Red Rocks Community College. “We support helping students achieve success in their chosen career and technical fields. We are grateful to The Grainger Foundation for its generosity.”
The Red Rocks Fine Woodworking program provides hands-on training from entry-level skills through master-level competencies. “The demand for CNC training has increased dramatically and the 10 new computers will allow us to accommodate more students and provide additional access during non-class time,” said Bill McGreevy, Dean of Instruction. McGreevy also pointed out that the Cyber Security program provides students with the skills necessary to protect computing systems and networks, including those related to infrastructure essential for national security. According to McGreevy, “the generous funding for the programmable logic controller will provide additional resources needed for our control systems security course.” These donations will affect over 300 Fine Woodworking students and over 2400 Cyber Security Students.
This donation was recommended by Randy Kopp, Branch Manager of W.W. Grainger, Inc.’s, Denver location. Grainger has been a part of the Denver business community for many years as the leading broad line supplier of maintenance, repair, and operating products. “We are proud to recommend the programs offered by Red Rocks,” said Kopp. “We understand the need for providing students with opportunities for growth and development in career and technical education.”
