Mobile Apps Program

Mobile Apps program at RRCC

According to the bureau of labor statistics, employment of computer software engineers is expected to increase by 32 percent from 2008-2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. In addition, this occupation will see a large number of new jobs, with more than 295,000 created between 2008 and 2018. New growth areas will also continue to arise from rapidly evolving technologies. The increasing use mobile technology such as the wireless Internet have created a demand for a wide variety of new products. In addition, the growing use of handheld computers will create demand for new mobile applications and software systems. As these devices become a larger part of the business environment, it will be necessary to integrate current computer systems with this new, more mobile technology. http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes151133.htm.

In order to meet this growing need and to prepare students for new jobs in a growing market, RRCC is offering two new mobile device courses. The first course introduces the Objective-C language. Students learn the fundamental skill necessary to begin developing applications for mobile devices. It is the Prerequisite course. The second course teaches students programming using the iPhone/iPad SDK, object-oriented programming in Objective-C and Cocoa, collections, GUI, event handling, controllers, audio, video, animation, the compass, peer-to-peer connectivity and GPS.

Whether you are an experienced programmer or just getting started, you can begin preparing for mobile device development this fall. For a complete listing of programs and certificates, go to www.rrcc.edu/cis/degrees
