Associate of Applied Sciences (AAS) Degree
When seeking an AAS degree, Colorado residents can get an edge by taking classes through Red Rocks Community College, and will graduate better prepared to face the challenges of the work force.
The Associate of Applied Science degree awarded through Red Rocks consists of 60-75 credits, or about half the amount of credits needed for a BS. Our AAS degree was created for students who are not planning on transferring their degree to a four year college or university. Instead, our AAS degree program allows students to prepare themselves for direct entry level employment in the career of their choice.
To fulfill our Colorado based AAS degree program, students must complete state-designated general education requirements (commonly called core classes) for a total of 38-42 hours. These courses focus on core skills including written communication, oral communication, arts and humanities, mathematics, and social sciences. The remaining hours allow the student to focus on the areas of applied sciences, and to obtain the educational tools needed for a variety of lucrative, secure careers, including the fields of engineering, nursing or medicine, computer science, mathematics, food safety, and teaching.
As mentioned above, the AAS degree program is not intended for transfer. However, some of the program classes may be transferred on an individual basis by the receiving four year college or university.
