Admissions Criteria & Application Process
for the AAS degree option
We would like to thank you for expressing interest in the Red Rocks Community College Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
The Red Rocks Community College Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program has separate admissions criteria and application procedures from that of the remainder of the college. These criteria may be amended as necessary by the administration of the program.
Successful candidates for admission must meet the following:

The candidate must be at least 18 years of age.

The candidate must submit a completed application including the required documents and must meet the Technical Standards required.

The candidate must be able to appear for a personal interview when requested.

Any candidate offered admission will be required to obtain CPR certification, undergo a physical examination according to clinical site requirements to include immunizations and drug testing. A background check, per state mandate, must also be provided.
Application Criteria:
1. Students must apply, and be accepted by, Red Rocks Community College. RRCC online application >>
2. Students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible to apply to the sonography programs:
1. A 2 year degree/certificate in a patient care related field such as Radiography, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, or Physical Therapy; or
2. A Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in any field.
3. Applications are accepted between July 1st and July 31st each year. All student official* transcripts must be submitted to the program between July 1 and July 31st each year. Download the DMS application (.pdf) on this website.
DMS Application
Documents submitted before July 1 or after July 31st will not be considered.
4. Once accepted into the DMS program, students are required to take RTE 255 MULTIPLANER SECTIONAL IMAGING during the Fall semester.
5. Applicants with foreign transcripts must have those transcripts equated to American courses by an accredited agency. Contact the Student Records department for information.
6. To be considered for subsequent years after initial application, prospective students must reapply each year following the above process.
The program application process requires that ALL material above be submitted within the window of time described. Only documents which are in every respect complete within the guidelines and timelines mentioned will be considered. Documents received that are postmarked midnight July 31st will be considered submitted in a timely manner.
The application materials submitted will be used in conjunction with an objective point scale to determine which applicants will be awarded an interview.
