Niki Nolles

Niki E. Nolles attended Baylor University her freshman year of college but then became a student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees (with honors) in English. She taught part time at UNLV for more than ten years while working full time, first as the promotion coordinator for the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper and then as the production coordinator for Southwest Gas Corporation, a public utility company in Las Vegas.

Niki moved to Denver from Las Vegas in 1990 and taught part time at Arapahoe Community College and Red Rocks. She was fortunate to be awarded a full-time position at Red Rocks in 1992. Niki teaches developmental and college-level composition classes; she also teaches a variety of literature courses, including Gothic literature, a course she developed. (Her favorite class to teach is ENG 121.) In addition, she has worked as a Writing Center tutor and enjoys teaching in learning communities. Niki is not teaching during Spring 2007 but is working full time as a writer on a special assignment that involves the accreditation of RRCC with the Higher Learning Commission.

Niki and her husband Walter Nelson, a retired Red Rocks English and literature instructor, live in the southwest corner of Lakewood, about 20 minutes from the Lakewood campus on a good-weather day. In May and June of 2003, Niki and Walter traveled with RRCC students and other instructors to Ireland. In recent years, Niki and Walter have traveled to England to study Shakespeare's plays and to Mexico with Spanish instructor Francisco Padilla to study Spanish and Latin American culture, language, and literature.
