Financial Aid

January 13, 2012
A summary of how the 2012 Congressional Budget Bill will affect financial aid:

  1. The duration of Pell eligibility has been reduced from approximately 18 full-time semester hours to approximately 12 full-time semester hours. This will be grandfathered in.
  2. There will no longer be a grace period for the interest subsidy for new sub loans (effective 7/1/2012). This means that during the 6-month grace period, the interest will accrue.
  3. Effective 7/1/2012, student must have either a high school diploma or a GED prior to the beginning of the semester in order to be financial aid eligible. This will be grandfathered in.

July 1, 2011
A new federal regulation states that financial aid will no longer cover a course for which a student has already received a passing grade at least twice. The student may not take it a third time using financial aid. Also, a course previously failed will remain eligible for financial aid only until the course is passed.

Welcome to Red Rocks Community College and the Financial Aid Office. We hope your experiences here are some of the most memorable and rewarding of your lifetime. The better you understand the process of financial aid, the better chances you have of maximizing the amount of aid you'll receive. Keep in mind, requests for financial aid usually exceed amounts available. It is essential you apply early and stay informed on the status of your application.

Most Financial Aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. To assure your application is processed and awarded prior to the first day of class, Priority Dates have been established. Students can still apply for federal aid throughout the academic year however; it is strongly recommended you submit your application prior to the established priority date in order to have your aid accounted for when student bills are processed.

Information on Red Rocks Community College policies and procedures can be found throughout this web site and in the Financial Aid Handbook (PDF). It is every student's responsibility who applies for aid to be familiar with the contents of this document.
