Over the past couple years some individuals and companies have provided support for the shop. This support is very important to maintaining the shop and the program. Their contributions have helped us create programs which otherwise would have been impossible.
Sometimes this support is something as little as a nut or a bolt to keep a tool in the shop running. Other times this support is in the way of helping us organize or improve various areas of the shop. Manufacturers have donated some tools, and I think without exception they have seen a good return on their investment. We even have companies willing to offer scholarships to students (we're still working out the details of that). The point is everything, no matter how little will help.
I was asked to develop a specific list of tools and supplies that the school really needs. I felt very uncomfortable with creating this list for a couple reasons. First, I've never really asked for any sort of donation before, but have learned over the past two years that in order to continue to improve the shop and the program I need those donations. The other reason I feel slightly uncomfortable asking for specific tools, is that I don't want to seem like I have a bias for a specific tool. All of the requests are for tools that have proven themselves capable of withstanding the abuse given them by over 800 students per year. This is no easy task and many tools simply are not made well enough to withstand that abuse.
Thank you in advance for your donation, and you can be assured we will strive to make the best possible use of the materials or tools you are able to provide. |
