Recommended Tools (order of importance)
Woodturning Tools

Start with only the first three things, and as you learn more, increase you collection.

  • Sketch Book
  • Machinist Square
    • Get a good one
    • I like this one from Grizzly (G9639)
  • Mechanical Pencil (lead holder)
    • Uses 2mm pencil lead. Get 2H lead as anything softer is too soft for woodworking
    • Alvin Tech DA
  • Marking Knife
  • Chisels
    • Bench Chisels, the Blue Chip (Irwin/Maples) are still one of my favorite starter chisels
    • 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 at a minimum
  • Personal Protection Equipment- we do have PPE's for you to wear, but it's always a good idea to have your own.
    • Safety Glasses
    • Hearing Protection
  • Marking Gauge
  • Measuring Devices not as essential as most people think, but they sure can come in handy
    • 6 foot folding ruler Lufkin X46
    • 6" Metal ruler Bridge City (1101-124)
    • 12' Tape Measure
  • Dovetail Saw
  • Block Plane
  • Bench Plane
    • Lie Nielsen #4 or #4.5
    • Old Stanley or Record with a LN replacement plane blade source
    • Restoration techniques of a #5 coming soon
  • Shoulder Plane
    • Veritas (Lee Valley)
    • Clifton #3110
  • Combination Square
    • 6" Starrett
  • Bevel Gauge
  • Dovetail Square/Gauge
  • Electric Router
  • Router Plane
