Nurse Aide Courses
NUA 101 and NUA 170
Colorado is experiencing a tremendous shortage in skilled nursing assistants. This course prepares you for a job in this fast-growing field. Instruction includes basic nursing assistant procedures, skills, restorative services, general household activities, patient care, safety, and emergency care. Students gain an understanding of the responsibilities involved in working with patients of all ages, in both wellness and illness, issues of mental health, patient rights, and patient/family interactions.
A minimum of 107 hours of training is required. Classes meet on weekdays or early evenings or weekdays, with clinical experience provided on four additional Saturdays.
In the last 10 years, the nurse aide profession has grown almost 50%. Base salary ranges from $8.50 - $12.00/hour, plus shift and weekend differential.
There has never been a better time to propel your education in health care than now. Many nursing programs require completion of a nurse aide course prior to entrance into their programs. In addition, job opportunities are numerous, in such areas as:

- Hospice

Requirements for Acceptance:
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- Place college level on Reading Comprehension and Sentence Skills portion of Accuplacer exam.
- A criminal background check MUST be completed for enrollment in
the program. Please see the application packet for further details.
- Students must be CPR certified (Health Care Provider) prior to starting their clinical rotation.
- Students accepted into the course MUST complete a drug screen.
- Proof of immunizations and a physician’s statement are required the first day of class.

Certification Exam:
In order to become certified, students must take the national Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam through PearsonVue in Denver. There is a cost of $95.00 to take the exam.

The Allied Health Department is located at the Lakewood campus, third floor, room 3682. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
To get to the Allied Health Department, enter the stairwell by the bookstore entrance (see map). Go up stairs to the second floor, make first left through the glass doors, then make an immediate right into the alcove. Take the staircase to the third floor and follow the signs from there.
