RN Refresher Course NUR 290 and NUR 291

This 12-week course is designed for registered nurses who have been absent from nursing practice (15 years or less) and want to update their skills. Students will meet Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday from approximately 8:30AM - 4:30PM. During this course you will update basic nursing skills, review body systems, learn and practice physical assessment skills, and engage in extensive peripheral line placement and maintenance.

The 12-week course consists of approximately:

  • 116 hours classroosm time
  • 96-120 hours hospital clinical experience
  • 32 hours skills lab in a hospital with state-of-the-art hands-on opportunities

Program Information

Applicants must be registered nurses with an active Colorado RN License. Nurses who do not hold an active Colorado RN License, or have an out of state license, must contact the State Board of Nursing at 303.894.2430 or www.dora.state.co.us/nursing to obtain further information.

Expenses

  • Criminal Background Check
    • Required criminal background check is $59*
  • Drug Screen
    • Drug test will be given by Wiz Quiz at RRCC a week before clinicals start.
    • Approximate cost: $25*, paid by check to Wiz Quiz
  • Tuition
    • In-state tuition: Approximately $2,500-$2,700* with COF** applied
    • Out-of-state tuition: Call the Cashier's Office at 303.914.6222 for current tuition

  • CPR Certification
    • In-state tuition: Approximately $70-80* with COF applied.
    • Out-of-state tuition: Call the Cashier’s Office at 303.914.6222 for current tuition

  • Required Textbooks & Supplies
    • All materials including stethoscopes are available at the RRCC bookstore. Please contact the bookstore for current prices at 303.914.6232.

  • Health Insurance
    • Students are required to have health insurance while enrolled in the program.

Additional Information

  • Students must be CPR certified (Health Care Provider) prior to starting their clinical rotation.
    • CPR classes (listed as HPR 102) are available at RRCC. Please check our schedule for details. The CPR book needs to be read before the class.

Application Process

Seating is limited. This is not an open enrollment offering. Students must make a separate application to the program.

Step 1. Complete RN Refresher application and submit to Administrative Assistant as indicated on the application.

Step 2. Apply for admission to Red Rocks Community College.

Step 3. Register for the College Opportunity Fund (COF) at https://cof.college-assist.org/COFApp/COFApp/Default.aspx. This is the state stipend for residents of Colorado.

Step 4. Upon acceptance into the program, the student will complete a criminal background check online using American Data Bank’s website, www.healthcareex.com. Please select “Package 1: Criminal Background Check, $59*”.

Step 5. Accepted students need to complete all required paperwork and bring to the first day of class.
