RN Refresher Course
NUR 290 and NUR 291

Are you a registered nurse who left the field years ago, and now wish to return? How long has it been? Five years, 10 years, 15 years, or more? Don't know where to turn to get back into the profession? Red Rocks Community College has the refresher program you have been seeking!

This 10-week course is designed for all registered nurses regardless of time absent from nursing practice. Students will meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Friday from approximately 9AM -3:30PM. During this course you will update basic nursing skills, review body systems, learn and practice physical assessment skills, and engage in extensive peripheral line placement and maintenance.

The 10-week course consists of approximately:

  • 116 hours classroom time

  • 96 hours hospital clinical experience

  • 32 hours skills lab in a hospital with state-of-the-art hands-on opportunities

This course, which has been offered at Red Rocks Community college since 1970, has helped thousands of registered nurses return to practice. So, what are you waiting for?

Our curriculum is approved by the Colorado Council on Nursing Education (CCNE) and endorsed by the Community Colleges of Colorado.

Applicants must be registered nurses with an active Colorado license. Nurses who do not hold an active Colorado license, or have an out of state license, must contact the State Board of Nursing at 303.894.2430 to obtain further information.

Requirements for Acceptance: 

  • You must have a current Colorado RN License to apply. If your RN license is outside of Colorado or out of the USA, please contact the Colorado Board of Nursing at (303) 894-2430 or www.dora.state.co.us/nursing.
  •  
  • A criminal background check MUST be completed for enrollment in the program. Please see the application packet for further details.
  •  
  • Students must be CPR certified (Health Care Provider) prior to starting their clinical rotation.
  •  
  • Students accepted into the course MUST complete a drug screen.
  • Proof of immunizations and a physician’s statement are required prior to clinicals.

The Allied Health Department is located at the Lakewood campus, third floor, room 3682. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To get to the Allied Health Department, enter the stairwell by the bookstore entrance (see map). Go up stairs to the second floor, make first left through the glass doors, then make an immediate right into the alcove. Take the staircase to the third floor and follow the signs from there.
