Constellation Comments - Student Issues

Advising processes work effectively to get students in appropriate courses and programs.
Assessment center should provide review materials for a student before he takes an assessment test
Student Expression
RRCC maintains a climate that encourages students to express their ideas, even unusual or unpopular ones.
Red Rocks is more supportive of students' freedom of expression and freedom to express unpopular or divergent ideas than other community colleges in the metro area.  In that respect I find it more akin to the universities than other community colleges.
Our campus is fairly homogeneous.  For this reason, many students resist new or different ways of thinking.  This is an issue that comes up during GLBT events, diversity training, and other events on campus.  Steps should be taken to encourage students of different backgrounds, and races to attend RRCC.  Perhaps more outreach into minority communities, scholarships, etc.
RRCC makes improvements based on the complaints it receives.
Many of my students have complained about slow or terrible service at the Cashier's window, and yet nothing has been done.
The Gripes and Kudos section of the student newspaper is an asset in this area.
...depending on the validity of the complaints.  It seems to depend on who is complaining.
