The Red Rocks Community College Law Enforcement Training Academy provides an intensive, 16 1/2 week instructional program that satisfies the certification requirement for prospective or newly hired law enforcement and parole officers. Completion of a certified training academy is one of the requisites for individual certification by the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST). Colorado Law requires that candidates for peace officer and parole positions be POST certified before they work as a Law Enforcement Officer. The Red Rocks Law Enforcement Academy meets and exceeds requirements set by the POST Board, giving the peace officer candidate an opportunity to earn 37 hours of college credit in one semester.

Criminal Justice Department
More Police, Parole, Corrections Officers Needed
Although a few large law enforcement agencies have their own training programs, most rely on other sources for academy training, that will allow candidates to become eligible for certification by the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
Normal attrition, retirements and the anticipated addition of new positions will prompt a need for many more new peace officers in law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Colorado.
In addition to many opportunities for jobs within local police and sheriff departments, new employees will be needed over the next few years to staff federal and state prisons in Colorado. To meet the need for trained applicants in these areas, Red Rocks offers not only offers the Colorado POST-approved Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy, but also an associate degree program in Criminal Justice.
