Law Enforcement Training Academy
Application Process
A complete Law Enforcement Academy packet may be picked up at the Emergency and Public Safety Department or you can call the Academy Office at 303-914-6333 or 303-914-6462 to have an application packet mailed to you. (The information below is not inclusive)
Semester:
- Fall Academy begins on August 18, 2008
- Spring Academy begins on January 12, 2009
Maximum Enrollment:
Enrollment is limited to 30 students per academy.
Skills-only students accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Course Times:
The RRCC Law Enfrocement Training Academy is an intensive 37-college credit program lasts 16 to 16 ½ weeks. The academic classes and skills classes meet Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and also include evening classes. There will be a few select classes held on Saturdays. The PE classes meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. The curriculum meets and exceeds new requirements mandated as of July 1, 2005, by the Colorado Peace Officers Standards and Training Board.

Tuition and fees:
- Colorado residents: approximately $3,985 (with COF applied)
- Nonresidents: approximately $14,350
Financial aid may be available to degree-seeking students. Please contact the financial aid office at 303-914-6256 for further information regarding eligibility. The GI Bill may also be used.
Books: approximately $145
Additional Equipment:
Handgun, leather\nylon gear, flashlight, whistle, black BDU's, handcuffs, and other miscellaneous equipment. Cost is variable.
Incidental costs: $125 for POST test, $39.50 to be fingerprinted, $36 for a CPR/First Aid class for students without a current card, and approximately $25 for two required academy t-shirts.
Requirements and Application Process:
To apply to the Red Rocks Law Enforcement Academy, you must be 21 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED.

Please note that you are able to download the complete application packet except for the fingerprint card. The academy application is an interactive form in which you are able to type your answers. The forms must be printed off once completed and submitted in person or by mail to the Emergency and Public Safety Department.
Selection process for each academy begins at least 10 weeks before the Academy start date. Application packets may be downloaded, picked up or requested from the Academy Office. All required documents must be submitted to Academy Office before the interview process.

Interviews:
We will contact you to schedule an interview once the completed application is received. Complete application packets must be submitted prior to an interview being scheduled.

Interviews will be conducted during June.
Restrictions:
Things that will keep applicants out of the academy include but are not limited to:
- A bad-driving record (DUI, suspension, reckless driving, etc.) in the last three to five years.
- A conviction of any felony, or certain misdemeanors. For a complete list of misdemeanors which can affect eligibility or certification, please consult the POST web page at www.ago.state.co.us/index.cfm.
- Low academic assessment scores below college entry level in reading and writing skills.
If you have been charged with a crime other than a traffic offense, obtain court records as soon as possible indicating the disposition of the case so these records my be submitted when the selection process begins.
