Red Rocks library books on various aspects of psychology are listed in the library's web catalog by author, title, subject, and other keywords appearing in online tables of content, summaries, etc. The best way to find books on a subject is to perform a keyword search using word(s) describing your subject. To see examples of searching the library catalog, click on the appropriate link below to see keyword searches on nature and nuture or antisocial personality disorders. When you are in the catalog you can change your search at the bottom of any title list or full record page.

    Red Rocks Library general collection books can be checked out by students for three weeks using a student ID card available from Student Life or a Red Rocks Library card available from the library. Reference books cannot be checked out.

    Red Rocks Library * NetLibrary ebooks are listed in the Red Rocks catalog by author, title, and subject. They can be identified by the term E-BOOK to the right of the title in a screen of titles. Ebooks can be browsed online for about 20 minutes without a Red Rocks NetLibrary account or can be checked out (reserved for your exclusive use) for 24 hours with a Red Rocks NetLibrary account. You can access the Red Rocks NetLibrary ebook collection from anywhere, including home, using your Red Rocks NetLibrary account.     The Red Rocks Library subscribes to about 300 newspapers, magazines, and journals kept on shelves in the periodicals areas. Some titles in psychology, along with an indications of the library's print and microfilm holdings of each title, are listed below. Titles having current holdings usually have about a year's worth of issues in the periodical stacks.     The Red Rocks Library has full text articles from over 8,000 newspapers, magazines, and journals in its online * EBSCOHost, * ProQuest, and * ELibrary periodical databases. These databases contain thousands of individual articles on psychology topics. The databases are listed on the Online Services Guide.     In addition to the print periodicals listed in the section above, Academic Search Premier contains many full text titles containing articles related to psychology, including many that appear in scholarly (or peer reviewed) journals.     By default the results of searches in Academic Search Premier and other EBSCOHost databases are sorted by date with the newest articles listed first. You can rearrange results by Relevance, Source, and Author by clicking to the right of the Sort By window.
    Other full text article databases that have articles on psychology are * EBSCOHost Business Source Premier, * EBSCOHost Professional Development Collection, and * ELibrary, each of which can be searched specifically for peer reviewed journal articles. These and other articles databases can be accessed from the library's Online Services Guide.

    Videos on psychology topics are listed in the Red Rocks library catalog by title, subject, and words in summaries of videos. They can be identified by a call number in the form "VH-" (or "VHC-" for Health Careers videos) on the right side of the screen in a listing of titles. Red Rocks library videos cannot be checked out of the library by students but can be viewed within the library. You will need an ID to leave at the circulation desk while you have the video. Click on the link below to search the Red Rocks web catalog for videos containing the word psychology in their catalog record. When you are in the web catalog you can change your search at the bottom of any title list or full record page.

  • APA Monitor - A free online publication of the American Psychological Association. Contains readable articles on many areas in psychology.
  • Current Topics in Psychology - A well-organized, quick reference collection of articles, Web sites, and research tools. Maintained by Dr. Michael Fenichel.
  • Encyclopedia of Psychology - Not a true encyclopedia, but a well-organized guide to information on psychology on the Internet.
  • Internet Mental Health - Organizes hundreds of entries on mental disorders, medications, and other topics. For each disorder, the site provides descriptions, treatments, research, magazine articles, and links to related sites.
  • MedlinePlus. Contains news, links to high quality web sites, and other information about many illnesses and health issues, including topics in psychology and psychiatry. Examples of individual psychiatric disorders covered inlcude depression and schizophrenia.
  • MedlinePlus Mental Health. Contains news, links to high quality web sites, and other information in general area of mental health. MedlinePlus is a U.S. government consumer oriented health information site.
  • National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Good resource from the U.S. goverment. The NIMH publications page contains many high-quality free online publications.
  • Psych Central's Psychology Web Pointer - An annotated and rated directory of psychology and mental health resources on the Internet. Maintained by Dr. John Grohol, a psychologist and computer consultant.

    PubMed is the freely accessible online version of the U.S. government's Medline database, containing indexing, abstracts, and in some cases links to the free online full text of articles in all areas of medicine appearing in over 3,500 worldwide medical journals, including many journals and articles in psychiatry and psychology.     Since retrieved articles are displayed in inverse chronological order, you can rerun a PubMed search periodically to see new articles added to the PubMed database showing at the top of the results list.
    PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).     Web Searching Using Google

    Google Web Search - Indexes over 3 billion web page, including many web pages about topics in psychology. Web pages may vary in quality. Focus on educational institution, government agency, or non-profit professional organization web pages which tend to provide higher quality information by entering .edu, .gov, or .org, respectively, in the domain window in Google's Advanced Search. See fewer results by using exact phrases in Google's Advance Search. Click on the links below to see examples of searching Google for web pages on autism. When you are at Google you can change your search by entering new words or phrases in the Google Search window at the top of every Google screen.

    Another useful technique to find high quality medical articles, reports, and other documents on the web is to search Google for .pdf (portable document file) documents which are frequency used by educational institutions, governmental agencies, and non-profit organizations to place these types of material on web sites.     Google Scholar Search - Google Scholar broadly searches for scholarly literature. Google Scholar searches across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations. A special feature is a link to citations (if any) for each items found. For example, click on the link below to search for information on autism in Google Scholar.
