RRCC Becomes New Member of Oracle Academy

Lakewood, CO -- Red Rocks Community College is joining schools across the nation and the world who are utilizing the Oracle Academy to help graduates compete in a global workforce. The Oracle Academy provides an in-kind grant of more than $130,000 to RRCC consisting of curriculum, professional development and Oracle technology. Through the grant, educational institutions are able to create articulation pathways and offer industry certification programs that lead to in-demand, high-income careers.

According to data from CareerVoyage.com, based on Department of Labor reports for “in-demand occupations, a Colorado database administrator’s median wage is $31.52 per hour. In Colorado, employment for database administrators will grow from 2,970 jobs in 2002 to 4,690 jobs by 2012. Currently in Colorado there are 200 annual job openings for database administrators and 72% employers will require a college degree. RRCC students pursuing a degree who receive Oracle and MS SQL experience will have an advantage in a very competitive job market.

In July, Christie Burton, Computer Technology Faculty, successfully completed Oracle’s Database Design and Programming with SQL courses and will begin teaching these courses for the fall 2006 semester.

RRCC will continue to offer Microsoft SQL Server certification courses, along with the SQL courses. Students can register for CIS 240: Database Design and Development and CIS 251: Introduction to SQL. Both courses include the new Oracle online course content. For more information contact Christie Burton at 303-914-6249.
