The Grainger Foundation Donates $30,000 to Support Technical Education
Lakewood, CO (July 27, 2009) – In these tough economic times, Denver community colleges have experienced hardship from state budget reductions and corporate sponsorships falling behind, leaving a deficit that affects the college’s students, programs and staff. Based on the recommendation of Denver area branch managers, Robert Rogers, Joel Hicks, and Randall Kopp, The Grainger Foundation has stepped up to address this need by awarding $30,000 to advance Red Rocks Community College’s technical education programs.
“Grainger continues to be a highly valued partner,” said Paulann Doane, Executive Director of the RRCC Foundation. “In addition to this wonderful gift, Grainger has provided scholarship funding for the past two years through their “Tools for Tomorrow” scholarship program, which increased for this academic year from one $2,000 award, to two for students planning careers in Career and Technical Education fields. Three very deserving Construction Technology students have received the awards to date.”
The donation will be used to purchase updated computers, software, and projection systems to support state-of-the-art instruction across RRCC curriculum. It will also help with the purchase and installation of a Solar Energy Demonstration Center.
“Grainger is proud to partner with Red Rocks Community College because we are helping to support crucial projects that otherwise would be delayed,” said Robert Rogers, Branch Manager at Grainger. “The new Solar Energy Demonstration Center will allow current and future Renewable Energy Technology students to train on installing, maintaining, and repairing solar units and we are excited to see this program grow.”
