RRCC Students Pocket Billiards Wins in ACUI Recreation Tournament


LAKEWOOD, CO – Eight students from RRCC traveled to the University of Arizona to compete in the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Region 13 Recreation Tournment on Feb 4 and 5.  Region 13 consists of colleges and universities from Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Arizona. Students in attendance represented Utah State, University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Sheridan College, University of Wyoming, New Mexico Tech, and Red Rocks Community College.  Events were held in nine-ball billiards, table tennis, and the National Academic Quiz Tournament (NAQT).
Students from Red Rocks competed in the nine ball billiards competition and represented the school well. Jozette Martinez finished third in her bracket and 5th overall.  Leoul Assefa advanced to the championship match where he ultimately finished in second place.  With the second place finish, Assefa qualifies for the ACUI National Tournament to be held this summer.
Also competing were: Giovanny Jimenez, Diego Fernandez, Jacob Kullmann, Jason Dobson, Kristen Schuster and Camron Thorpe.
ACUI supports its members in the development of community through education, advocacy, and the delivery of services.
