RED ROCKS COMMUNITY COLLEGE
13300 West Sixth Avenue
Lakewood, CO 80228
7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

LAKEWOOD, CO — On April 16, 2010, Red Rocks Community College is partnering with 9Health Fair to present more than 20 free and low-cost health screenings and education offerings.  9Health Fair, Colorado’s largest volunteer-run, non-profit health care program, is urging anyone over 18 to attend.  With more than 150 sites across Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska, 9Health Fair delivers free and low-cost health screenings and education.

Located at 13300 West Sixth Avenue in Lakewood (near 6th Avenue and Union), the Red Rocks Community College site offers spacious parking and shuttle service to and from the parking lot for seniors and the handicapped, as well as easily accessible, centralized screening locations on the campus.  Doors open at 7:00 a.m. and the fair ends at noon.  Visit www.rrcc.edu for directions to the campus or call 303-914-6600.

In addition to offering free and low-cost health screenings that address today’s most critical health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, mental health and more, 9Health Fair also offers:

Each year, 19,000 9Health Fair volunteers serve more than 90,000 people from communities around the state.  With more than half of those volunteers comprised of doctors, nurses and other medically-trained individuals, 9Health Fair needs Phlebotomists, Registered Nurses (RNs), Physicians Assistants (PAs), Medical Doctors (MDs), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and other credentialed medical professionals to help administer a variety of health screenings and draw blood. Retired medical professionals and students enrolled in a medical program can also volunteer at any 9Health Fair site, with instructor supervision, and additional phlebotomy training and refresher courses are available through 9Health Fair.  Spanish speaking volunteers to help with on-site interpretation and translation are also needed.

In addition, to ensure proper hydration for a smooth blood draw experience, and to continue its focus on “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” this year, participants should plan to bring water to their 9Health Fair.  Representatives recommend drinking plenty of water the night before and morning of your visit to prevent any issues during your blood draw experience.

All 9Health Fair locations include a $30 Blood Chemistry Screening which gives you information on your blood sugar (glucose), cholesterol, triglycerides, liver, kidney, bone and muscle function and may show warning signs of diabetes, heart disease and other concerns.  Other low-cost screenings such as a $25 Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) screening for men, which checks for prostate gland issues and cancer, a $15 Blood Count screening, which checks the health of your blood, a $40 Vitamin D screening, which measures your baseline Vitamin D level, and $20 Colon Cancer Screening Take Home Kit, which checks for colon cancer, are also available.  Free screenings such as Blood Pressure, Pap smears, Breast Exams, Prostate/Testicular, Ask a Medical Question, Ask a Pharmacist, Osteoporosis, Oral, Hearing, Foot, Skin and more are offered at specific locations, as well.
