RRCC President Lauded by West Chamber
Dr. Michele Haney receives "Celebrate Women of Jefferson County" award

LAKEWOOD, CO -- Dr. Michele Haney, president of Red Rocks Community College, is among this year's honorees at the West Chamber's "Celebrate Women of Jefferson County" and was recognized at a breakfast event last Friday.  The award honors women in our community that demonstrate professional spirit, community leadership, a passion for life, and dedication to charitable causes.

Nominated for her long-term leadership in the Colorado community college system, among other exemplary character traits, Dr. Haney is among 10 recipients of the heroine award. She has been an anchor point for community education in the West for four decades. She began her career in the Wyoming college system before coming to Colorado. Dr. Haney's past work within Colorado's community college system includes serving as the VP of Front Range Community College from 1992 to 2003, followed by serving as president of Morgan Community College 2003 to 2008, before her current role as president of RRCC.

Dr. Haney is a charter member and was the first president of the Rotary Club of Denver West, in addition to having a long track record of community involvement and charitable work. Dr. Haney is also a member of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges; past president of Colorado-Wyoming Women Deans, Administrators and Counselors; president, Community Reach Board; and serves on the boards of Exempla Lutheran Hospital Foundation, Jefferson Economic Development Council, and Jefferson Symphony Orchestra.

Since joining Red Rocks in 2008, Dr. Haney has worked to improve technology and web resources to expand teaching and learning opportunities, helped RRCC lead a seamless transition of high school students into dual enrollment programs, and initiated plans to expand grant funding and workforce development. Dr. Haney's leadership has increased student retention, graduation, and minority enrollment.
