RMEC Earns Renewal of Training Center Status
Center also celebrates 20 years as Region VIII OSHA training institute

LAKEWOOD, CO – In November, RRCC’s Rocky Mountain Education Center (RMEC) celebrates 20 years as an OSHA Education Center Training Institute serving region VIII, which includes the states of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, and North Dakota. This milestone is also marked by the announcement this week that RMEC’s institute authorization has been successfully renewed for an additional five years by the Department of Labor’s OSHA.

In the last 20 years RMEC has provided training in work place safety, environmental compliance, and industrial health for more than 70,000 students. RMEC provides trainer courses to authorize safety professionals in construction and general industry to conduct OSHA authorized worker training in the OSHA standards. Rocky Mountain Education Center joins 24 OSHA training institutes and four newly authorized institutes nationwide in the mission to provide safety, industrial health, and environment training to the construction and industrial workforce.

Rocky Mountain Education Center is leading the effort to develop a new OSHA authorized safety training program for those working in the oil and gas industry. RMEC’s Executive Director, Joan Smith, expressed her enthusiasm for the continued work ahead.

“We are pleased to learn of the continued support of OSHA for the training programs we provide,” said Smith. “We have partnered with the North Dakota Safety Council and the McMurray Training Center in Wyoming to help us provide OSHA authorized training programs in these states to serve the oil and gas workers employed in the Bakken and Niobrara Basins. To expand our reach, we have also partnered with Aims Community College in Greeley to offer additional training locations to serve the workers employed in Colorado’s DJ Basin.”
