Red Rocks Foundation Board recognizes excellent faculty :: Business Department Chair Wendy Bird lauded with Endowed Teaching Chair award

LAKEWOOD, CO -- Wendy Bird has been selected as the 2013-2015 Mike Leprino Family Foundation Endowed Teaching Chair. The RRCC Foundation Teaching Chair program, the only multi-year faculty award in the Colorado Community College System, is a meaningful way of recognizing and awarding outstanding faculty. The Mike Leprino Family Foundation and Coors Brewing Company endowed the first two chairs in 2001.

Red Rocks PTK Honor Society Earns International Recognition

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Kappa Sigma, returned from an international convention in San Jose, CA last month with a number of distinguished awards. Chapter President Rita Erickson, Vice-President Robert White, and Vice-President Cody Oldham were recognized as a Distinguished Chapter Officer Team at the Phi Theta Kappa International Hallmark Awards Gala. Erickson also received the individual award of Distinguished Chapter Officer.

Red Rocks Community College to Host Emergency Services and Outdoor Education Career Fair

Lakewood, CO – Red Rocks Community College’s Emergency and Public Safety Department and Outdoor Education Department will host a career fair on Tuesday, April 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the RRCC Lakewood campus. Police and fire departments, emergency management agencies, ambulance, and outdoor education & recreation services will come together to present employment opportunities to students and graduates from programs such as Fire Science Technology, Law Enforcement Academy, Emergency Management and Planning, Emergency Medical Services, Park Ranger Technology, and Outdoor Education.

RRCC hosts Japanese exchange students
International students learn English while enriching their cultural experience

Lakewood, CO – Red Rocks Community College hosted one teacher and 11 students in a study abroad program from Tsuruoka, a city in the Shonai region of the Yamagata prefecture of Japan. During the two weeks, students stayed with host families, improved their language skills, took classes at RRCC and went on excursions around the Denver metro area and the Colorado Mountains to get a sense of the culture and scenery.

Own Your Own Health:  ATTEND 9HEALTH FAIR THIS SPRING

Lakewood, CO – On April 13, 2013, Red Rocks Community College is partnering with 9Health Fair to present more than 20 free and four low-cost health screenings, as well as education, for people to keep their health in check.  9Health Fair, Colorado’s largest volunteer-run, non-profit health fair program, is urging anyone over 18 to attend.  More than 150 communities throughout Colorado and Wyoming will host a 9Health Fair.  For a complete list of screenings and locations throughout Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska, visit www.9healthfair.org.

Seeking applicants for US-BRAZIL Connect Internship Program

Lakewood, CO – Red Rocks Community College is accepting applications for RRCC students who will travel to Brazil for a four-week sponsored internship in June 2013. The program, launched in June 2012, creates life-changing opportunities for U.S. students to participate in intensive internships in Brazil, which is now the sixth largest economy in the world.

RRCC Completes HVAC Lab Remodel and Upgrade:: New lab enables a safer and more efficient learning environment

Lakewood-Last month Red Rocks Community College recently completed a comprehensive upgrade to the learning lab for their Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program, making the facility the most advanced HVAC lab in the region. The upgrade was funded by the college’s Rocky Mountain Education Center (RMEC), which offers non-credit workforce development and training. Renovations will enable RMEC to offer the current workforce an energy-efficient program while simultaneously improving the quality of RRCC’s degree program in this field.

Auditions for Scars: Breaking the Cycle :: Performance presented by Red Rocks Community College Theatre Arts and Dance

Lakewood-The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance at Red Rocks Community College proudly announces auditions for the spring production of Scars: Breaking the Cycle by Connie Sander and Pamela Mencher based on the writing of students of the RRCC Gateway Program.

This unique theatre production is based on real-life experiences of Red Rocks Community College Gateway Program students. Based upon these writings, this ensemble-based theatre production recreates and narrates these tragic events and the ‘scars’ that are left behind. The play contains adult language and mature content.
