Red Rocks Community College Presents "Last in the Woods" and "When Trellises Break" Exhibits

LAKEWOOD, CO – Red Rocks Community College is hosting two exhibits this summer. “Last in the Woods” by RRCC faculty member Alexis Clements and “When Trellises Break” by Terri Bell from June 15 through August 25, 2016 in the Susan K. Arndt Gallery located at RRCC’s Lakewood campus. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 10 pm; Saturday and Sunday from 7 am to 6 pm.

Alexis Clements and Terri Bell have been sharing thoughts and ideas about photography for the past five years. This artistic friendship is where it was discovered that Alexis and Terri complement each other’s preoccupation with nature, memory, and the fragility of time through speaking the same photographic language of romanticizing melancholy. This artistic synchronicity made it an obvious match for a co-exhibition.

Last in the Woods exhibit by Alexis Clements a fine art project that focuses on illustrating personal narratives through semi-constructed photographic imagery staged in a wooded landscape. Much of this work involves the installation of objects and at times incorporates use of self-portraiture. Last in the Woods was incepted after taking a run on the trails through the woods of her childhood during a summer visit to the northwestern Missouri town that she grew up in. Alexis Clements has devoted the past sixteen years working with the photographic medium. This includes teaching photography and multimedia at Red Rocks Community College for nine years with the past six as full time faculty. Last in the Woods was recently seen in Hollywood, CA at the PhotoIndependent Festival as a selected photo book and including Shots and The Hand magazines.

When Trellises Break by Terri Bel is an exhibit that involves a photographic and mixed media series and narrative. The artist explores the vulnerability many of us experience during springtime. She states that the series "explores the contrasts between fragility and resiliency, and the constant pull and push that life presents through growth and discovery; countered by weakness and destruction." The artist has also published a companion book to go along with the installation of this series. Terri Bell is a fine art photographer, abstract painter and mixed media artist based in Denver. Her work has been shown in many solo, groups, juror and invitational shows, and can be found in numerous private, commercial and corporate collections. Please visit her website for more information about her art and the companion book for this series at www.tbellphotographic.com.
