I am ready to apply to the RRCC PA Program in 2014

Please check the RRCC PA program homepage for the dates of general information sessions. The faculty provides these sessions for those who need further information regarding admissions.

Candidates for admission to the class entering August 2015 must meet the following criteria:

General Criteria

The candidate must submit an application to CASPA ( and a $100 application fee to the RRCC PA Program.

Three references are required to complete your application and CASPA will accept only three references for each applicant. (CASPA recommends you consider requesting references from individuals capable of assessing your suitability and preparation for a health career and academia. Such individuals might include physicians, PAs or other health care providers.)

The candidate who is selected for an interview must appear in person for a scheduled interview.  The candidate will also be required to submit additional application materials. Further information regarding these materials will be provided to the candidate when the interview offer is extended.

The candidate cannot have been convicted of a felony criminal offense or of any criminal offense, regardless of its designation, which involved a crime of moral turpitude or crime against children.

The candidate, prior to matriculation, must:

Hold current BLS (CPR) certification.

Provide evidence of compliance with CDC guidelines for healthcare workers regarding immunizations and freedom from communicable diseases.

Pay for and provide a current background check as required by program policy.

Academic Criteria

The candidate must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited institution of higher education as of June 15, 2014.

The candidate must have completed the following prerequisites at a regionally accredited United States institution by June 15, 2014:

Math (6 semester hours)

College Algebra or higher 3 semester hours
Statistics 3 semester hours

Physics (3 semester hours)

Physics (algebra-based or higher) 3 semester hours

Biological Sciences (12 semester hours) (*see below about required 200 level classes)

Cell Biology* or Genetics *  3 semester hours
Additional Biology courses  9 semester hours
  General Biology
  Cell Biology*
  Human Anatomy*
  Human Physiology*

Chemistry (10 semester hours) (*see below about required 200 level classes)

Organic Chemistry*    3 semester hours
Additional Chemistry courses  7 semester hours
  General Chemistry
Organic Chemistry*

* Please Note: 200 level equivalent (sophomore level) course or above is necessary to meet the requirement. These courses usually require a freshman level (100 level equivalent) pre-requisite course.

Prerequisite courses should be taken in their respective departments (for example, cell biology should be taken in the biology department). Courses taken in other departments (for example nursing or kinesiology) or part of a professional program do not provide sufficient foundational knowledge to fulfill the needs of the PA program. The exception to this is the statistics requirement. An appropriate statistics class may be taken in department other than math.

Please note that these pre-requisites represent the minimum requirements to be considered for admission. Successful applicants (admitted to the program) usually have significant additional science coursework at or above the 200 level equivalent (sophomore level).

Advanced placement is not accepted in lieu of any prerequisite. Advanced standing or credit for experiential learning or courses completed as part of a professional degree is not available for any course required as part of the PA curriculum.

Clinical Criteria

The candidate must have completed and documented at least 2000 hours of paid healthcare experience (see FAQ #5 for further explanation) between June 15, 2009 and June 15, 2014.

International Applicants

The candidate whose primary language is not English is required to take the TOEFL test of English proficiency. Successful candidates’ scores rank intermediate or better.

The candidate who has completed any course work at an institution outside of the United States will be required to submit transcripts to a professional transcript evaluation service acceptable to the program. Click here for a list of acceptable services.

All pre-requisites for admission must have been completed at a regionally accredited United States institution.
