Special Feature:
“The Boot Camp Challenge” – this exciting event was implemented at the Playwrights Showcase in 2007 and was such a grand success we decided to bring it back for 2009. Only registered participants in the Boot Camp are eligible to participate in the “Boot Camp Challenge”. The terms of the Challenge are to write a six page play centered upon a theme announced the first day of Boot Camp and submit it by the deadline, two days later. A panel of directors will select up to 12 scripts which will then be presented as part of the Playwrights Showcase of the Western Region at Curious Theatre Company under the auspices of the “Boot Camp Showcase”.
This associated event includes new features based upon feedback from participants in the first Boot Camp offered in 2005. These changes include:
- Three full days of workshops and writing seminars led by nationally recognized playwriting professionals.
- Participants may choose placement in one of four categories:
- Writing for youth theatre
- Beginning playwriting
- Intermediate playwriting
- Advanced playwriting
(A writing sample is required for placement in Intermediate or Advanced levels)
- Boot Camp participants are eligible to write for the Boot Camp Challenge of which selected playwrights will have their work featured and then critiqued in the Boot Camp Showcase at Curious Theatre Company, Saturday, August 8, 2009.
- Modest registration fee for Boot Camp participants (all levels): $120 for all three days.
