Boot Camp Challenge For the Playwrights 2011

TO SUBMIT SCRIPTS, playwrights must be registered for, at least, the Saturday Only option ($65)
This includes admission to the Boot Camp Showcase on Saturday night.

What is the Playwrights Boot Camp Challenge?

The Boot Camp Challenge is an exclusive opportunity for playwrights to submit their work for selection and performance in the Boot Camp Showcase of the Western Region.

As with other elements in this year’s Playwrights Boot Camp of the Western Region, the Boot Camp Showcase has undergone some significant and exciting changes. While the performance will feature many of the most talented directors and actors in the Denver Metro theatre community, we plan to take it beyond staged readings and utilize full production values of lighting, sets, costumes, and properties in the performance. In addition, we will provide the playwrights with more time to write their script submissions based upon a specified, general theme. For full details read the Boot Camp Challenge guidelines below.

Boot Camp Challenge Rules

  1. Only registered participants of the Playwrights Boot Camp are eligible to submit work for consideration.
  2. A general theme to guide playwrights will be posted between June 13 and June 16, 2011; accessible at a specified telephone number given in an invitation after you have registered for the Playwrights Boot Camp.
  3. You will be asked to write a short play in standard script format that does not exceed six (6) pages of dialogue, based upon the chosen theme.
  4. The deadline for submissions is 8:00 p.m. on June 16, 2011. Electronic submissions only; PDF or Word document is required.
  5. The playwright’s name and contact information should appear only on the title page of the script so submissions may be judged anonymously.

Big Changes for the Boot Camp Showcase This year:

  • Playwrights get more time to write!
  • Selected plays receive a full production at Buntport Theatre in Denver, CO
  • Selected Playwrights receive a royalty payment along with a commemorative certificate.

Up to twelve short plays will be chosen by a panel of directors for full production on July 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Buntport Theatre.

Winning entries will receive full production, a commemorative certificate, and a royalty payment.
