Motorcycle Rider Education
Motorcycle Safety Foundation curriculum is offered by ABATE of Colorado. Courses for the beginning rider are available. Helmets, gloves, long shirt and pants, eye protection, as well as, sturdy over-the-ankle shoes are required for all riding sessions. Helmets are available for student use. A current Colorado driver's license or ID is required for proof of residency. Preregistration and prepayment are required. Students who cancel within 48 hours of course will not receive a tuition refund or date transfer.

Beginning Rider Class
This 15-hour Basic Rider Course is designed with the new rider in mind. We begin with the most basic information on motorcycle controls and operation and continue to include modules on street strategies, obstacle avoidance and braking skills. We provide the motorcycles for this course. The Basic Rider Course is mentally and physically demanding, please be prepared. Recent bicycle riding experience is assumed.
The Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles accepts successful completion of this class for the skills and written tests for your Motorcycle Endorsement. A valid Colorado driver license o instructional permit is required.
STUDENTS UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE MUST HAVE PARENT SIGN LIABILITY WAIVER PRIOR TO CLASS. THE STATE OF COLORADO REQUIRES INDIVIDUALS UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE TO HOLD A MOTORCYCLE INSTRUCTIONAL PERMIT FOR SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO OBTAINING A FULL ENDORSEMENT.

DRIVER EDUCATION – MOTORCYCLE

Prerequisite: Valid drivers license or permit. You MUST present your drivers license the first day of class. This course is designed for beginner or new riders who are interested in learning to ride skillfully and safely. A good sense of balance is required (must have recent bicycle experience). Approximately 70% of the course is on-cycle instruction. Motorcycles are supplied for this course, and loaner helmets are provided if student does not possess a helmet. Half or “shorty” helmets are not allowed as they may put the user at unnecessary additional risk. Students must provide their own eye protection, full-finger gloves, long sleeve shirt, long pants of denim or equivalent or better quality, and over-the-ankle sturdy boots. A pen or pencil and a highlighter are also required. You will learn everything from mounting to maximum braking and swerving. Upon successful completion of the course, the riding and written portion of the Colorado motorcycle endorsement test may be waived. Minor licensing: individuals under the age of 18 must hold an instructional permit for one year prior to obtaining the full endorsement; a parent or adult guardian must appear at class to sign a liability waiver before a minor student will be allowed to ride. Many insurance companies offer a discount to graduates of this course. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Colorado Department of Transportation certify this course. Refunds may be made to those who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class session. There will be a $5 processing fee for withdrawals. Rain dates will be announced by the instructor. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early for each class session. Maximum of 11 participants per section.

Motorcycle Rider - Experienced with License Testing/Waiver

This approximately 6 hour course is designed for riders who do not as yet possess a motorcycle endorsement on their driver’s license. Students must provide their own eye protection, full-finger gloves, long sleeve shirt, long pants of denim or equivalent or better quality, and over-the-ankle sturdy boots. Use of personal motorcycle is optional; students opting to use their own motorcycle must have a valid motorcycle permit. Loaner motorcycles will be available. Participants must have recent and significant riding experience. This is not a beginner’s course. Riders without sufficient skill will be excused from the class and advised to take the Basic Rider Course instead. The course includes both a written test and a riding test. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a completion certificate which waives further testing with the Colorado DMV for a motorcycle endorsement.

Prerequisite: A valid motorcycle license, your own street legal motorcycle (motorcycle will be subject to a safety inspection), current registration and proof of insurance for the motorcycle used in the training. Students must provide their own eye protection, full-finger gloves, long sleeve shirt, long pants of denim or equivalent or better quality, and over-the-ankle sturdy boots. This one-day course is designed for the licensed rider with significant road experience. The course helps the experienced rider improve riding skills and increases riding enjoyment by developing the mental and physical skills found lacking in the accident involved rider. Many major insurance carriers recognize this course for discounts. Completion of the basic course is not a prerequisite for this class. Maximum of 11 participants per section. Experienced Rider Course with License Testing (ERCLW)
Cost: $120 (Colorado Driver's License) or $120 (Out of state)
This course is designed for experienced motorcyclists. If you have any doubts about your riding abilities, please consider a Basic Rider Course. For your own safety, and that of other course participants, if you can not demonstrate competent riding skills at the beginning of this course, you will not be allowed to continue. The course includes both a written test and a riding test. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a completion certificate which waives further testing with the Colorado DMV for a motorcycle endorsement. The course is conducted on our motorcycles.
