Staff Profile: Trish Lopez
Office Specialist in Rocky Mountain Education Center at RRCC
Trish Lopez has the smile that usually greets visitors when they enter Rocky Mountain Education Center.
Trish was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and she and her family still reside here. Horizon Middle School in Aurora and Horizon High School in Thornton are the schools she attended. Trish and her brother Fernando are part of a larger family that includes their dad’s family (six children) and their mother’s family (5 children). Large family events, like graduations, birthdays, receptions, and weddings, are guaranteed to have places on Trish’s social calendar.
Trish also gives her time enthusiastically to interests that she and her “Significant Other” Kevin share: their dog Destiny and cars. With her Pontiac Trans Am and his Corvette in their past, they now take her Saturn Ion and his Jimmy Typhoon two times per month to the Test and Tune Nights at Bandimere Speedway. Attending races, especially ones in which their friends race, are events that they look forward to and enjoy.
Seeking work that is enjoyable and interesting led Trish to interview at Rocky Mountain Education Center two and one-half years ago. She was working as a temp at the State Department of Labor and noticed the Red Rocks Community College job opportunity on the state website’s job postings. This work has been a perfect fit for her, and with the on-the-job training and her existing skills, experience, and interests, her job satisfaction continues to affirm her decision.
Trish’s employment at RMEC has provided another opportunity: attending RRCC where she is taking core classes and contemplating an Associates Degree in Business Administration.
The variety in her daily work, along with her vibrant co-workers, keeps Trish happy to come to work. Her responsibilities include answering incoming calls and processing on-site, off-site, and online certificates and cards at the completion of OSHA, RMEC, and CETC classes. She takes charge of the online OSHA classes by tracking students who register, sending class materials, and receiving and filing student data forms and OSHA evaluation forms.
If you have taken any classes at RMEC or if you plan to enroll, you have interacted or you will interact with Trish and experience one of the many delightful employees in this department. When asked what she likes best about working there, Trish responded, “The people I work with. . . each has a positive attitude and a sense of humor; they are friendly and out-going. I like working in a small office where people really know each other. We each do our work, and we also step in for each other. We are just like a family, and we do have our ups and downs.”
To experience the warm greeting and the personal care that Trish and the other employees offer, Trish encourages you to come and visit Rocky Mountain Education Center at Red Rocks Community College.
