Calling Red Rocks Community College students interested in Sustainability, Science, Technical Careers, Innovation, and Engineering….. with an international perspective, and a willingness to build connections with Brazil. This program is also open to students from Arapahoe Community College, Community College of Aurora, Community College of Denver, Front Range Community College, and Morgan Community College.

US-BRASIL Connect Internship Program

We are looking for students who have the drive and desire to thrive in an international experience and who are committed to helping build the US-BRASIL Connect movement for future community college participants. 

This program creates opportunities for US community college student to work as interns, seeing Brazil first-hand.  You will develop professional networks, and explore global trends in innovation, sustainability, water, and information/environmental/construction technologies.  

US interns work online and in Brazil with Brazilian high school students who are studying to enter technical fields and want your help to learn English.   The application process is designed to identify participants with high potential as authentic leaders, effective agents of change, problem-solvers, and dedicated team builders.   You do not need to know Portuguese to participate.

What do US-Brazil Interns do? You will…

Participate in a two-credit-hour online course which prepares you to travel to Brazil and gain the skills needed to serve as an English-for-Technology tutor to Brazilian high school students in the coastal city of Salvador, Bahia Brazil.

Serve as an online tutor, working 4 hours per week with 10 selected Brazilian technology students from March-June 2012 and after return from Brazil in July.  Interns will receive guidance for their work as tutors and earn a stipend of $550.

Travel to Salvador, Brazil for a 4-week internship in June/July 2012. In Brazil, interns will teach English four hours per day, participate in an in-depth learning experience focused on Brazil’s rise and the role of sustainability, science and technology, and explore Salvador’s amazing music, beaches, dance, and food.  Housing and food are provided.

Student costs are $1000 plus RRCC tuition and costs of visas, vaccinations and travel insurance.
Thanks to generous support from sponsors and donors, costs of travel, accommodations, etc are reduced. Our hosts, The Brazilian Confederation of Industry and the school of SESI and SENAI will support interns and faculty, providing local accommodations and meals for our month in Brazil.

What are the selection criteria?

  • You are a Community College student at Red Rocks Community College or a community college in the Denver area (AACC, CCD, CCA, FRCC, MCC)
  • You are genuinely interested in learning about Brazil and connecting with Brazilians
  • You will make a commitment to helping a group of 10 Brazilian high school students improve their English for their studies in technology-related fields.
  • You are interested in careers related to sustainability, innovation, science, technology, or engineering
  • You respect cultural diversity, enjoy learning, and want to learn some Portuguese
  • You are able to work cooperatively in a team and have a positive attitude
  • You have excellent skills in English
  • You are comfortable with new technologies since you will utilize web and social media tools to communicate with and engage their peers. Skills in writing, photography, and video editing are a strong plus.
  • You are over 18 years of age and have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.  You must submit a complete application with an essay and letters of recommendation by Feb. 3, 2012.
