RRCC President Lauded by Denver Business Journal
Dr. Michele Haney among finalists for "Outstanding Women in Business" award

LAKEWOOD, CO -- Dr. Michele Haney, president of Red Rocks Community College, was among this year's honorees at the Denver Business Journal’s Outstanding Women in Business and was recognized at a luncheon in August. The award honors local women for their accomplishments in their field of work; as well as their lifetime achievements.

Twelve women were honored in industry categories of architecture, engineering and construction; banking, finance and accounting; communications, media and public relations; education, government and nonprofits; health care; law; real estate; and technology and telecommunications.

Nominated for her long-term leadership in the Colorado community college system and her service to the community, Dr. Haney is among three finalists in the category of education, government and nonprofits. She has been an anchor point for community education in the West for four decades. Since joining Red Rocks in 2008, Dr. Haney has worked to improve technology and web resources to expand teaching and learning opportunities, helped RRCC lead a seamless transition of high school students into dual enrollment programs, and initiated plans to expand grant funding and workforce development. To support the college’s Physician Assistant program, she led an effort to make RRCC the first two-year community college in the United States to offer a master’s degree, which legislation recently approved.

Dr. Haney is a charter member and first president of the Rotary Club of Denver West, a member of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges; past president of Colorado-Wyoming Women Deans, Administrators and Counselors; and serves on the boards of Exempla Lutheran Hospital Foundation, Jefferson Economic Development Council, and Jefferson Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Haney was recently recognized as the 2012 and 2013 Board Member of the Year for Community Reach Center of Colorado and was among the Woman of the Year for Jefferson County in 2011.
