LAKEWOOD, CO – Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) will host a Veterans Day celebration at their Lakewood campus, 13300 W. 6th Avenue on Thursday, November 9 from 10:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Red Rocks students, faculty, staff, and the entire community are welcome to attend.

RRCC Theatre Presents Ordinary Days
A Musical About Unexpected Connections

LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance, through special arrangement with R & H Theatricals, presents the musical Ordinary Days, with music and lyrics by Adam Gwon. This musical is directed by Kelly Jo Eldredge. Performances will be November 9, 10, and 11 at the Red Rocks Community College Theater.

Red Rocks Community College Receives $319,235 Grant for Children’s Center

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Children’s Center at Red Rocks Community College has recently been awarded the Child Care Access Means Parents in Schools (CCAMPIS) grant. The CCAMPIS Program, authorized by the Higher Education Act and administered by the U.S. Department of Education, supports the participation of low-income parents in postsecondary education through the provision of campus-based child care services.

LAKEWOOD, CO – Economic Modeling Specialists, a leading provider of economic impact studies and labor market data, recently studied the impact of Red Rocks Community College and the others in the Colorado Community College System. The results of this study show that RRCC creates a tremendously positive net impact on the regional economy and generates a positive return on investment for students, taxpayers, and society.

RRCC Theatre Presents Bent
Honoring LGBTQ History Month

LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department in collaboration with the Center for Inclusion and Diversity present the play Bent, by Martin Sherman. This play is directed by David-Matthew Barnes, with choreography by Angela Simmons. Performances will be October 5, 6, and 7 at the Red Rocks Community College Theater.

Red Rocks Community College Presents “Redline” Art Exhibit
Resident and Resource artists showcase beautiful, playful and thoughtful work

LAKEWOOD, CO – Red Rocks Community College is currently hosting an exhibit of work by Redline a gallery space that hosts resident artists. “Redline - Resident and Resource showcases work that ranges from conceptual statements about social issues to work that reflected on domesticity, new interpretations of historical art and work that pushed into new ways of working with age-old materials like drawing and photography.

RMEC receives $155,000 grant from US Dept. of Labor
Grant to fund ‘training of trainers’ in fall prevention on construction sites

LAKEWOOD, CO – Rocky Mountain Education Center (RMEC), the continuing education division of Red Rocks Community College, has been selected to receive a new grant award from the US DOL Susan Harwood Grant Program. The grant will fund RMEC’s one-day experiential training program to support those tasked with training their workers in how to prevent injuries from falls on construction sites. RMEC will develop the curriculum in both English and Spanish. RMEC has partnered with the North Dakota Safety Council and will offer the one-day training at no cost to construction companies throughout the Rocky Mountain States of Colorado, Utah, Montana, North and South Dakota, and Wyoming. RMEC has also received approval to offer the training program in Texas and Arkansas.

LAKEWOOD, CO – Last month, a group of Red Rocks Community College students participated in a nationwide NASA project to capture data and images of the eclipse from the edge of space - an experiment that could help us understand where life could survive beyond Earth.

Largest Scholarship in the Nation for Community College Students Now Accepting Applications

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2018 Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, the largest private scholarship in the country for community college transfer students. As many as 55 students from a nationwide applicant pool will receive up to $40,000 per year for up to three years of study at the four-year accredited college or university of their choosing.

Red Rocks Community College Creates Problem-Solvers of the Future

LAKEWOOD, CO – Red Rocks Community College Foundation has received a $15,000 grant from the Xcel Energy Foundation. The grant will support the work of the IDEA Institute to pilot an engineering design challenge for local high schools to develop a solution to a real-world issue around food, energy, and water.

RRCC’s IDEA Institute Presents Inventor’s Faire at Jeffco Fairgrounds

The IDEA Institute at Red Rocks Community College will participate in the second annual Jeffco Fair & Festival this weekend by running an Inventor’s Faire on Saturday, August 12. IDEA Lab students and staff will provide interactive science and art exhibits such as drone racing, wind tunnel design challenge, robotic escape maze, 3D printing, photo booth, and a giant paint-by-number mural.

New RRCC Student Recreation Center (SRC) Open Now - Celebration Set for August 15

Red Rocks Community College officially opened the doors of a brand new Student Recreation Center (SRC) at the college’s Lakewood campus on June 26, 2017.  The SRC will be hosting a Grand Opening celebration on August 15 at 3 pm. Students, staff, board members, and college supporters from the community are invited to join the festivities, which will feature refreshments, tours, games, and giveaways for students.

Cyber Security Students Develop Cybersecurity Test Environment

LAKEWOOD, CO – For the third year in a row, Red Rocks Community College has earned top awards from the National Science Foundation in their Community College Innovation Challenge.

Red Rocks Community College Student Supports Sustainable Infrastructure Research

A Red Rocks Community College student is spending the summer at a large outdoor shake table test facility in San Diego to better prepare urban areas to survive large earthquakes. With urbanization trends, the demands for tall residential and mixed-use buildings are increasing. This research project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) will contribute to new understanding of building resilience in earthquake-prone areas. One Red Rocks student with a strong desire to engage in sustainable design was recruited. The student, Ethan Judy, is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with work experience as an Advanced Electronics Maintenance Specialist and will transfer into electrical engineering at Colorado School of Mines in the Fall. 

Research Experience Gives Community College Students Hands-on Learning in STEM Fields

Red Rocks Community College students who are planning careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields are gaining valuable experiences through Research Experience for Community College Students (RECCS), a summer research internship program at CU-Boulder sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Boulder Critical Zone Observatory. RECCS provides community college students with an authentic research experience that allows them to explore environmental or geosciences to prepare them to transition to four-year programs in the STEM disciplines.

Red Rocks Community College Presents “Reflections” Quilt Exhibit
Fiber artists reflect on culture, nature, personal experience, politics, race, gender and art

LAKEWOOD, CO – Red Rocks Community College is currently hosting a fiber exhibit by Front Range Contemporary Quilters. “Reflections,” juried by Marcia Young, editor and publisher of FiberArtNow magazine, reflects how culture, nature, personal experience, politics, race, and gender influence art. This reflection is cultivated, explored, and expressed in the work of the artist.  

Red Rocks Community College provides a fun reboot on Fresh Check Day

LAKEWOOD, CO – Lakewood, CO - Red Rocks Community College held their first Fresh Check Day - an uplifting mental health promotion and suicide prevention event - on April 26 on the south lawn of the Lakewood campus. Fresh Check Day, a program created by the Jordan Porco Foundation, includes interactive expo booths, peer-to-peer messaging, free food, entertainment, and giveaways.

RRCC Recognizes Outstanding Students and Faculty at Commencement 2017

LAKEWOOD, CO – Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) celebrated the achievements of students and faculty at their 47th annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13.  Over 2,500 degrees and certificates were awarded to graduates from summer 2016, fall 2016 and spring 2017.

Ten teams of solution-based researchers head to nation's capital for Innovation Boot Camp

LAKEWOOD, CO – Lakewood, CO—The National Science Foundation announced that a team from Red Rocks Community College is one of 10 finalists in its nation-wide Community College Innovation Challenge (CCIC). The CCIC is a contest in which community college students are asked to propose innovative science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-based solutions to perplexing, real-world problems. 

Red Rocks Students Finish First Place in Colorado/ Wyoming Japan Cup

LAKEWOOD, CO – A team of three Red Rocks Community College Japanese language students won first place in the Colorado/Wyoming Japan Cup, an inter-college Japanese language and culture competition, last month at the University of Denver. RRCC competed against 11 other teams from Colorado universities.  Red Rocks was the only community college participating.

RRCC Awarded CCCS Innovation Grant for $193,000 to support STEM projects

LAKEWOOD, CO – Lakewood, CO – Two Red Rocks Community College programs were selected for funding by the Colorado Community College System’s Innovation Challenge Awards.  The 2017-2018 Innovation Grants will build programming for RRCC’s IDEA Institute and WeBWorK Math Instruction.

Red Rocks PTK Honor Society Earns International Recognition

LAKEWOOD, CO – Red Rocks Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa honor society chapter, Alpha Kappa Sigma, was recognized at the International Convention in Nashville last month with three major awards. Chapter officers Natasha Albrecht, Deitra Sandy, and Sean Ross; and Advisor Carolyn Mattern were present at the 99th annual convention of the International Honor Society for two-year colleges.

Arvada/Wheat Ridge Service Organizations Recognize Teens for Overcoming Adversity
Students receive scholarships to Red Rocks Community College

LAKEWOOD, CO – More than 100 teenagers who have overcome various forms of adversity were recognized by the Arvada Wheat Ridge Service Ambassadors for Youth (AWRSAY) at a ceremony in April at Wheat Ridge High School.  Scholarship awards to Red Rocks Community College and recognition certificates were presented by the students’ nominators and school principals. In addition, Congressman Ed Perlmutter has arranged to have the names of the youth printed in the Congressional Record. The program was narrated by Ron Sloan, retired Director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

RRCC Presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown - Don’t Miss This Beloved Classic!

LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department presents the musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. This beloved classic is directed by Kelly Jo Eldredge and choreographed by Marilynn Toth. It is presented by special arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc., New York. Performances will be April 27, 28, and 29 at the Red Rocks Community College Theater.

RRCC Receives Genesis Award from Jeffco Economic Development

LAKEWOOD, CO – The Jefferson Economic Development Corporation honored RRCC with the Genesis Award for “Economic Developer of the Year” for the Arvada Campus expansion at their 24th Annual Industry Appreciation Awards breakfast last month. This award honors an organization that has significantly contributed to sustained economic vitality in Jefferson County through creative leadership, innovation, facilitations, and collaboration both within and outside of Jefferson County. RRCC was nominated by the City of Lakewood and the Arvada Economic Development Association. The college was the recipient of the same award in 2015.

Denver, CO — On April 22, 2017, Red Rocks Community College is partnering with 9Health Fair for our 15th year as a host site for a community family fair. Each spring, volunteers organize more than 25 free and low-cost health screenings and education offerings for our community, placing a variety of life-saving health screenings all under one roof. Over 100 of our site volunteers are students, faculty and staff from RRCC, assisting in both medical and non-medical roles in the health fair. We have many special children’s screening, all of which are free. We will also have a “Touch a Truck” area with fire and ambulances for the children to explore.

RRCC’s Joan Smith Honored in Denver Business Journal’s 2017 Top Women in Energy

The Denver Business Journal recently announced its list of the 40 Top Women in Energy, recognizing women who are key influencers in metro Denver’s energy sector. This year Joan Smith, Executive Director of RRCC’s Rocky Mountain Education Center (RMEC), is among the honorees and will be recognized in the April 14 issue of the Denver Business Journal and at a VIP reception on April 19 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Pinnacle Room.

Certified Physician Assistant in Red Rocks Community College’s PA Program Nationally Recognized
Dayna Jaynstein one of only 20 in state to earn credential

LAKEWOOD, CO –Dayna Jaynstein, PA-C, a certified physician assistant faculty member at the Red Rocks Community College PA Program, was recently awarded a specialty credential called a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Red Rocks Community College Presents “Damage” Art Exhibit
Haunting imagery reflects society’s “most” and “least” wanted

LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College is currently hosting an art exhibit by Denver artist    Sharon Brown. “Damage” features psychologically charged paintings created mostly from photographs. The work, on display in the mezzanine near the library at RRCC’s Lakewood campus, will run from now until February 2018.

RRCC Offering Free Tax Filing Services to Families Through Tax Help Colorado Program
Partnership with Tax Help Colorado helps more families with incomes under $54,000 access free tax preparation services and bigger refunds

LAKEWOOD, CO - This tax season, Red Rocks Community College is partnering with the Denver-based Piton Foundation to help hard-working families become more financially secure by providing free tax preparation services through the Tax Help Colorado program. Beginning January 28, 2017, IRS-certified Red Rocks Community College students will prepare and e-file tax returns free of charge for individuals with household incomes of less than about $54,000 a year.
