New Student Rec Center open - Celebration August 15

New RRCC Student Recreation Center (SRC) Open Now - Celebration Set for August 15

Red Rocks Community College officially opened the doors of a brand new Student Recreation Center (SRC) at the college’s Lakewood campus on June 26, 2017.  The SRC will be hosting a Grand Opening celebration on August 15 at 3 pm. Students, staff, board members, and college supporters from the community are invited to join the festivities, which will feature refreshments, tours, games, and giveaways for students.

The 35,000 square foot facility was designed with student input.  It includes gymnasium space, weight/cardiovascular area, fitness studios, climbing and bouldering wall, an outdoor fitness deck, student meeting and gathering spaces, and improvements to the current multipurpose field. The previous 3,000 square foot fitness center was converted into a flexible, multi-purpose meeting space.  Site work will continue with grading/earthwork for the structure, upgrades to the existing athletic field, drainage, utilities, and landscaping, while maintaining access and services to the existing buildings.

The construction is the result of a planning and feasibility study conducted in 2013 and a vote by the Red Rocks student body. In spring 2014 students voted in favor of a fee increase to support the facility.  A planning committee consisting of RRCC student government members and RRCC staff brought the project to fruition.

The recreation center is available at no extra charge to all fee-paying students (non-fee paying students, such as online students, may opt in and pay the per semester recreation center fee).  Employees will be able to access the SRC for a fee.  For more information on the recreation center, visit or contact
