The Red Rocks Community College Foundation Elects Air Force LtGen(Ret) Michael Hamel to Board of Directors

Lakewood, CO--The Red Rocks Community College Foundation welcomes Air Force LtGen(Ret) Michael Hamel to their Board of Directors. The Red Rocks Community College Foundation strives to diversify the expertise of its membership as it works to support the vision and mission of Red Rocks Community College.

“Michael is an outstanding addition to the RRCC Foundation’s board. His experience as a veteran and his expertise in STEM industries brings a wonderful perspective to our board and will be helpful as we seek continuous improvement in developing opportunities to support student veterans and strengthen STEM programs,” said Ron Slinger, Associate Vice President for Institution Advancement for RRCC and Executive Director of the RRCC Foundation.

LtGen(Ret) Hamel is Vice President, Strategic Solutions, with Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. He is responsible for leading commercial communications and remote sensing programs for U.S. and international customers and developing innovative and strategic commercial business solutions and initiatives across multiple market areas. Prior to joining Lockheed Martin, Lt General Hamel was Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Relations for Orbital Sciences Corp, where he was responsible for leading Orbital Science's strategic planning, product and business development , government relations and corporate communications. He served in the U.S. Air Force for over 30 years in a broad range of space operations, development/acquisition, policy and command positions, concluding his military career in 2008 as a Lt General.

The Red Rocks Community College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to supporting the students, faculty, and staff at the college in their pursuit of excellence. The Foundation was established in 1991 with the vision of helping students of all income levels have access to higher education. Since its inception, the Foundation has given more than $4.4 million dollars in scholarships to RRCC students and $3.7 million for other RRCC programs. The Foundation also provides mini-grants to faculty and staff, awards for outstanding faculty, and support for other worthwhile initiatives.
