RRCC’s Marilyn Kenfield and Nina Ysais awarded Jefferson County Counselor Advocates of the Year

Lakewood, CO — Red Rocks Community College’s High School Relations team, Marilyn Kenfield and Nina Ysais, were recently awarded Jefferson County Counselor Advocates of the Year. Marilyn and Nina work with approximately one thousand K-12 students in Jefferson County each year who participate in the Concurrent Enrollment program.  They were nominated by counselors at Warren Tech, a K-12 partner who offers 26 concurrent enrollment programs with Red Rocks.

Both Nina and Marilyn were lauded for transforming the High School Relations Department at Red Rocks, their nominators noting the growth in enrollment in recent years.  Each spring and fall they enroll high school students in individual courses at RRCC and also facilitate Accuplacer testing for many of these students.

The nominators cited several examples of the dedication and skill of RRCC’s high school relations team, including

their vast knowledge on offerings and requirements, their efforts in expanding the number of courses offered across the district, their facilitation in helping teachers become credentialed, and their work in bridging the communication between teachers and department chairs.  Warren Tech counselors concluded the nomination by describing Marilyn and Nina as consummate professionals, valued colleagues, and student and counselor advocates.
