RRCC Presents Danny and the Deep Blue Sea
Riveting Drama by John Patrick Shanley

LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department presents the emotionally charged Danny and the Deep Blue Sea by John Patrick Shanley, presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. The play is under the direction of David-Matthew Barnes. This show, for mature audiences only, will be performed September 15, 16, 17 at the Red Rocks Community College Theater.

Danny and the Deep Blue Sea is a raw and heartbreaking story of two battered individuals searching for redemption and daring to reach toward love. Danny and Roberta meet at a hole-in-the-wall bar in the Bronx. He is a brooding man whose tends to resort to violence before reason. She is a divorced woman struggling with guilt and shame over past events and her present situation. The play explores how the pair finds strength in each other as they clumsily fight their way to redemption.

RRCC students with a student I.D. are invited to attend the September 15 showing for free. After the show on September 15, there will be an open discussion, led by RRCC Behavioral Health Counselor Katey Parson, M.Ed., LPC, and Jen Macken, MS, Director of Inclusion and Diversity.

When Danny and the Deep Blue Sea was first reviewed in The New York Times, the paper reported, “The play is the equivalent of sitting at ringside watching a prize fight that concludes in a loving embrace.”
Danny and the Deep Blue Sea will be performed September 15, 16, and 17 at 7:30 pm at the Red Rocks Community College Theater on the Lakewood campus of Red Rocks Community College (west end, lower level). Admission is $10.  Tickets may be purchased in advance online at www.tinyurl.com/RRCCTickets. Credit and debit cards are also accepted at the door.
