RRCC Presents The Importance of Being Earnest
The Genius of Oscar Wilde Continues to Amuse

LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department presents Oscar Wilde’s hilarious classic The Importance of Being Earnest, under the direction of Connie Sander. The show runs November 5 through November 15 at the Red Rocks Community College Theatre.

In this timeless play, Wilde takes a simple comic plot device—mistaken identity—and fills it to the brim with wit, mischief, and social satire aimed directly at elite society in late Victorian London.

The genius of Oscar Wilde is a study in itself, and the actors in The Importance of Being Earnest have had an uproarious few months learning from the master. His ability to use language to reveal the hypocrisies of 19th century high society is priceless and timeless. Hidden lives and secret identities invite us to look at the masks we wear in our own lives today.

“The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”

This production of The Importance of Being Earnest will honor the subversive nature of Oscar Wilde’s genius.  “We will make fun of the triviality . . . in a very serious way,” says director Connie Sander.

The Importance of Being Earnest will be performed November 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, and 14 at 7:30 p.m. and November 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Red Rocks Community College Theatre on the Lakewood campus of Red Rocks Community College (west end, lower level). Admission is $10. RRCC students may attend free with a voucher from Student Life.
