RRCC Presents When We Were Young and Unafraid
Difficult Subject of Domestic Violence Explored in New Play

LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department, in association with the Center for Inclusion and Diversity and Student Life, is proud to present a staged reading of Sarah Treem’s new and provocative play, When We Were Young and Unafraid, directed by Sean Dale.

When We Were Young and Unafraid was originally produced by Manhattan Theatre Club in New York City at City Center Stage, on May 21, 2014. RRCC is very excited to have this opportunity to perform it as a staged reading on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the Den on the Lakewood Campus of Red Rocks Community College.

The play takes place in the early 1970s, before Roe v. Wade or the Violence Against Women Act. Where did victims of domestic violence go to seek help? Agnes has turned her bed and breakfast into one of the few spots where victims may seek refuge. Unfortunately, one of those victims begins to influence her teenage daughter, Penny. Agnes is unsettled by new feminist ideals invading her quiet life, and she is forced to confront her assumptions about the women she helps.

Sean Dale, the director of the production, is a new instructor in the Theatre Arts & Dance Department at RRCC, and he is enthusiastic about bringing this important play to audiences. In addition to presenting the show in traditional staged reading format, the performance will include several dance pieces, choreographed by Danielle Heller and Emily Bryan.

When We Were Young and Unafraid will be performed on October 21, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the Den on the Lakewood campus of Red Rocks Community College. Admission is free and open to the public.
