RRCC to Produce Two Short Plays

Lighting Martha a play by Carolyn Gage and
Dreamers, Screamers & Believers a live radio show by Ian Watson

LAKEWOOD, CO - The Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department will present Lighting Martha a play by Carolyn Gage and Dreamers, Screamers & Believers a live radio show by Ian Watson on September 15, 16, and 17 at 7 PM at the RRCC Theater. Both shows are directed by El Armstrong.

At first glance, these two short plays (less than an hour each) seem to have little in common, but both explore what it is to live a meaningful life and how to navigate death—one in a very serious way; the other with a healthy dose of humor.

Lighting Martha explores the final days of the life of legendary lighting designer Jean Rosenthal and her long-time relationship with Miki (Marion) Kinsella. The play opens in April 1969, after the final dress rehearsal for Martha Graham’s 35th season at the City Center in New York, which Jean attended, just days before she died of cancer.

“Lighting affects everything light falls upon.  How you see what you see, how you feel about it, and how you hear what you are hearing.  Replace the ‘a’ with an ’e’ and you get lighting effects!”   -Jean Rosenthal

Dreamers, Screamers & Believers is a wonderfully silly take on the afterlife. It’s not heaven; it’s not hell. Think of it as karma.
