RRCC Recognized by the Kennedy Center College Theatre Festival

LAKEWOOD, CO - Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department is pleased to announce that their recent production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has been recognized by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Three RRCC students (Madison Miller, Leodis Smith, and Andi Davis) were nominated for the Irene Ryan scholarship award for their performances in the show. All three students will attend the regional competitions in February 2017, where they will represent the Theatre Arts & Dance Department at RRCC. They will join Pamela Gates-Trayser and Rick Iguado, who were nominated for RRCC’s production of Scars in February, and Jesse Brasell, Stephanie Morrow, and Madison Young, who were nominated for the department’s recent production of Sky Lines.

On a separate but related note, KCACTF also awarded RRCC student Brandon Kehiayan a Certificate of Merit for his performance in Putnam on Saturday night. Brandon stepped into the role only a few days earlier, as the original cast member was unable to perform due to a family emergency. Brandon, who only had one rehearsal to prepare for his performance, impressed the KCACTF respondents with his seamless performance.

RRCC participated in the KCACTF competition for the first time earlier this year in February. As a result, two RRCC performance students (Madison Young and Ashley Duke) have been accepted for admission into the Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Los Angeles. Ashley will begin classes there this summer. Madison will begin classes there this fall.
