Military Residency
Residency
If you have not resided in the state of Colorado for at least 12 months prior to attending Red Rocks Community College you will be billed at an out-of-state tuition rate. Please note that Ch. 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill ® only covers the in-state tuition rate. However, Active Duty service members, honorably discharged service members and their dependents can receive a waiver that allows them to be billed at the Colorado in-state resident tuition rate if they meet requirements. Students must be either attending a class in person or residing within Colorado to be considered for this benefit.
VETERANS
- Honorably discharged service members need to submit a copy of their DD 214 to the school certifying official (SCO) to obtain residency status. The DD 214 must state "Honorable" in the box for "Character of Service" at the bottom of the form. This is usually on Member page 4.
ACTIVE DUTY PERSONNEL
- If you are in the military and have Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders assigning you to a military installation in Colorado, you will need to obtain a Military Waiver from the military installation (contact installation Education Office for guidance). With that waiver along with a copy of your military ID, you will be eligible for Colorado residency for in-state tuition purposes. You will need to submit the military waiver and copy of military ID each semester enrolled.
DEPENDENTS
- If your military sponsor has retired or separated from the military within the last twelve (12) months, you can receive Colorado residency for in-state tuition purposes, you will need to submit the sponsors DD-214. The DD 214 must state "Honorable" in the box for "Character of Service" at the bottom of the form. This is usually on Member page 4.
- If your military sponsor has Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders assigning them to a military installation in Colorado (you must be on the service members orders/accompanied tour), you will need to obtain a Military Waiver from the military installation (contact installation Education Office for guidance). With that waiver along with a copy of dependent military ID, you will be eligible for Colorado residency for in-state tuition purposes. You will need to submit the military waiver and copy of dependent military ID each semester enrolled.
- If your military sponsor is on advance PCS orders relocating you to a Colorado military installation while the service member is serving on an unaccompanied tour with a return assignment to that Colorado military installation, you must provide a Military Waiver from the military installation to receive Colorado residency for in-state tuition purposes.
- College Opportunity Fund (COF) – Veterans and dependents who qualify for Colorado residency for in-state tuition purposes are also eligible for COF. You must apply and authorize the COF. Please see the COF link.
IF NONE OF THE ABOVE APPLY TO YOU
- For educational purposes, you must have resided in Colorado for one year to receive Colorado residency. You will be required to provide proof of residency (contact Admissions for more information) to qualify for in-state tuition.
