Will you be completing degrees or certificates this semester?

The September 4 deadline for graduation applications is quickly approaching!! Students must apply to be awarded certificates and degrees: 


Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

Make sure to send a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the Veteran Services office in Room 1005 on the Lakewood campus or email to veteran.services@rrcc.edu. If you need to request a COE, please see Step 1 under Get Started Here or go to www.va.govNOTE: It could take up to 2 months to receive your COE from the VA.

To send an updated COE for following semesters, the method will depend on your VA chapter number. Use our guide for requesting a COE as a Chapter 33 (Post 9/11) student. All other VA Chapters: Call 1(888)GIBILL-1, or 1(888)442-4551, to request your Certificate of Eligibility. After you receive your COE, please get a copy to us as soon as possible.

Summer 2019 GI Bill® Information

  • Full time for VA benefits depends on your VA Education benefits chapter and duration of your classes. Summer term is between 6/3/19 - 8/3/19. For most students, six credit hours as long as all of your classes start at the beginning of June and finish by the end of July. Any other combination of start and end dates can change the requirements to be full time.
  • Distance learning courses (online, correspondence, self-paced, online and some hybrid) can affect Post 9/11 Benefits. Contact us with questions. 
  • Post 9/11 students need to submit a Request for VA Certification no later than 6/11/19 (census date) to avoid late fees. Submit the Request for VA Certification form as soon as you have registered.
  • Only courses that are required for your declared program can be certified. You can now update your program on the Rock with the "Change of Declared Program" link under the Student tab.

After registering for classes, you must submit a Request for VA Certification in order to receive your benefits.


Fall 2019 GI Bill® Information

  • Full time for VA benefits is 12 credits from 8/16/19 to 12/10/19. For any other combination, please contact us to find out what your rate of pursuit would be. *Remember, it takes 60 credit hours to complete an associate’s degree, and you will need to sign up for 15 credit hours each semester or attend in summer terms to graduate within two years.
  • Distance learning courses (online, self-paced, online, and hybrid) can affect Post 9/11 Benefits. Contact us with questions. 
  • Post 9/11 students need to submit a Request for VA Certification no later than 9/4/19 (census date) to avoid late fees. Submit the Request for VA Certification form as soon as you have registered.
  • Only courses that are required for your declared program can be certified. You can now update your program on the Rock with the "Change of Declared Program" link under the Student tab.

Spring 2020 GI Bill® Information

Things to Remember
 

All Benefits 

  • The monthly payment from the VA is paid in arrears (first of the month for the prior month) and prorated for any month in which you are not in class for the full month.
  • All students must submit a Request for VA Certification form after registration for each semester they intend to receive VA payments.
  • If you are a guest student or plan on attending classes at another institution while attending RRCC, you need to contact the Veteran Services department to receive/file a parent letter.
  • Only courses that are a degree requirement for your declared program (on the Rock) can be certified.
  • Inform us of ANY registration changes (add, drop, and withdrawal) so we can report that in a timely manner and advise you of the impact, if any.

Ch. 33, Post 9/11

  • Students taking only distance learning courses (online, hybrid) are only eligible for Half the National Average of BAH.
  • The book stipend is capped at 24 credits for the academic year (August 1 to July 31). If you attend full-time in the fall term and full-time in the spring term, you will not receive a book stipend for the summer term.
  • If you attend half time or less, you will not receive BAH/Monthly Housing Allowance. Learn more about BAH eligibility.
  • Active Duty members are not eligible for the BAH from the VA. If you separate from active duty during the term or if you applied for benefits prior to separation, the VA will require your DD214 to change your status.

Post 9/11, Fry Scholarship and Voc Rehab

  • Once the add/drop deadline passes, and charges are solidified, tuition and fees will be reported to the VA for Post 9/11 and Fry within 30 days.
  • Voc Rehab will be paid by your counselor when they are invoiced after add/drop period by the Cashier's Office.
  • If you are interested in using Voc Rehab, please use eBenefits to apply for new benefits or talk with your current Voc Rehab counselor if you need to transfer to a local counselor. You will be assigned a Voc Rehab counselor through eBenefits.

Montgomery GI Bill®* (Chapter 30)

  • In order to be paid, you must verify your enrollment with the VA.
  • The soonest you can verify is the last day of the month to release payment.

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH)/Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)

  • Not all VA benefits chapters are eligible for BAH/MHA. Please check your Fact Sheet and/or section above to determine if you may be eligible.
