Fine Woodworking and Lutherie
We offer a unique and intensive hands-on program in such fields as guitar building, furniture making & turning. Our degrees and certificates are suited to fit your goals, whether it's pursuing a career in woodworking/lutherie, or merely honing your skills as a hobbyist.
The approach we take is a combination of old-world and modern techniques,
providing the most comprehensive woodworking and lutherie education available
in the region. The breadth of experience at Red Rocks is second to none. We
provide a variety of excellent courses in three paths of learning - furniture,
craft and lutherie. Our classes are scheduled in the day, evening and during
the weekend in order to allow students to further their education without
interrupting their careers.
The average class size is 12 students. Each class with 10 or more students will have a teaching assistant as well as the instructor. The school is located within the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, in Lakewood, Colorado.
A Guitarist's Dream: RRCC Lutherie Department Participates in the Healdsburg Guitar Festival in Santa Rosa, CA
"If there is a heaven, it looks just like the Healdsburg Guitar Festival," wrote guitar buyer Henry Lowenstein in the 2005 edition of Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars. And, he continued, "the nation's best luthiers get together to talk, play, and show the best of what they have to offer to the public. Every year they have the grand masters as well as fresh faces at the show. This is not only a great chance to meet the luthiers themselves and learn some really serious academic guitar-building theory, but also to make use of the numerous 'quiet rooms,' which allow you to actually play and compare these extraordinary instruments."
Starting in 1995, the Healdsburg Guitar Festival each year provides a place for guitar builders, guitar enthusiasts, and professional performers to come together in a festive community, validating the art of modern lutherie. RRCC lutherie faculty, Robbie O'Brien and Mike Snider attended the festival in Santa Rosa California this August and exhibiting a booth that represented the RRCC Lutherie program during the three day weekend. There were over 3,000 attendees over the weekend. Assisting with the booth, were RRCC students Gregory Fulghum, Brandon Aschenbrenner, Mike Peter and Rolo Padron.
