Welcome to your math journey at Red Rocks!
Proper placement is vital for your success. Instead of a traditional placement test, this tool helps you actively participate in selecting a course that is right for you. It considers your current math ability, your confidence level, and the type of degree or career you are pursuing.
You may take the assessment up to 5 times in your first semester. We use the highest score for placement.

What if you did not place directly in your required course, but you feel strongly that you are ready? Are there other ways to be placed into your required math course?
Yes! If you meet the requirements for one of the following, you can be placed directly into the required course.
- Appropriate SAT or ACT Math score
- Appropriate Accuplacer score
- Appropriate high school GPA AND appropriate high school math courses
- Prior college credit (previous math courses)
- Advising conversation with the Math Department Chair
We recommend that you meet with your Pathway Advisor. Go to the Advising webpage and find the advisor(s) for your program pathway and make an appointment. Share your results, finalize your academic plan, and register for class.
While recommended, meeting with a Pathway Advisor is not required. Once your GSP score is registered into the system by the college, you will be able to register for courses. (It is usually fast but can take up to 48 hours.) You will be sent an email when you are able to register.
Frequently Asked Questions
Some courses include a paired support class (for example, MAT 0340 College Algebra Support). These co-requisite courses are taken in the same semester as the main course and are designed to strengthen foundational skills and reinforce key concepts. The goal is for these support courses to help you be successful in the required math course.
That’s okay! Many people don’t feel ready, especially if it’s been a few years since you took a math class. You can always take a skill-building course, such as MAT 0250 or MAT 0300 first. Contact the Testing Center to ensure you are correctly coded in the system. This is especially important for our veteran students using the GI bill.
Financial Aid will pay for these courses if they are taken within your first 30 credit hours at any college or university, anywhere. See the Financial Aid Office for more information.
Special rules apply to veteran students using the GI bill. See Veteran’s Services and Financial Aid for more information.
Special rules may apply to students using GI Bill benefits. Financial assistance through the GI Bill can vary depending on your program and eligibility. If you take MAT 0250 or MAT 0300, contact the Testing Center to ensure you are correctly coded in the system. Please contact Veteran’s Services or the Financial Aid Office for more information.
