The RRCC Firefighter Academy is an intensive, multi-week, 18-credit program designed to prepare motivated students for entry into the fire service. Upon
successful completion of the academy and the state testing process, students earn Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, and
Red Card (wildland firefighting) certifications. RRCC is the only college within the Colorado Community College System to offer Firefighter II as part of
initial academy training, providing graduates with a competitive advantage and expanded career readiness from day one.
Students receive intensive instruction in both classroom and practical settings, covering topics such as fire behavior, building construction, search and rescue, hazardous materials response, and firefighter safety and survival. This blend of lecture and hands-on training ensures students are prepared not just to pass certification exams, but to succeed in the realities of the fireground.
Training is delivered by an experienced cadre of instructors who have served in every role within the fire service—firefighter, driver engineer, company officer, and chief officer. Their combined experience provides students with practical knowledge, mentorship, and a direct connection to the fire service community.
If your goal is to pursue a career in firefighting or to serve your community as a volunteer firefighter, the RRCC Firefighter Academy is the best place to start. All instruction complies with NFPA 1001: Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, ensuring graduates are trained to nationally recognized standards.
