Rock Wall

The Student Recreation Center houses a state of the art 28-foot climbing wall for bouldering, top-roping, and lead climbing. The wall is open for climbers of all abilities and has staffed hours during Fall and Spring Semesters. During staffed hours, participants can learn a variety of new skills from our knowledgeable student instructors including knot tying, movement technique, and top rope belaying. Belay certification, which can be obtained through an observational test from staff, is required at the wall to belay others while they are climbing. The wall will host several clinics throughout the semester for more specialized skills including lead climbing, anchor building, gym-to-crag transitions, rappelling, movement improvement, and multi-pitch climbing. Bouldering and the free rental of shoes & chalk are available during all open hours of the facility.

Climbing shoes, harnesses, chalk bags, and belay devices are available free of charge for all SRC members.

Trips

The mission of the Trips program is to provide Red Rocks Community College students with high quality student-led outdoor adventure trips that are affordable, educational, inclusive, and challenging for all abilities. Our programs are built on a foundation of student development, holistic wellness, and building a community on campus.

Trips are available to all fee-paying students and staff at a minimal cost. Trips vary from semester to semester but will include a variety of activities like rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, mindfulness hikes, and snowshoeing. All necessary equipment, instruction, food for overnight trips, and transportation is included in the registration cost. Most trips take place on Saturdays throughout the Fall & Spring semesters, with the exception being weekend overnight trips & our weeklong Spring Break trip.

All trips are planned at the beginning of each semester, and students can register for any trip on the Student Recreation Center website or at the front desk of the SRC. The Trips Program is also available for personalized trips that are tailored to groups, classes, or cohorts on campus. To organize a specialized trip, please contact the Adventure Programs Coordinator: alana.leonard@rrcc.edu. We look forward to having you join our trips and experience the great outdoors with the Red Rocks community.
