What is a Learning Community?
Enrolling in a Learning Community at Red Rocks Community College means that you can start or continue your educational program by linking two or more courses. Faculty who teach these courses assure that they combine the content so that learning becomes more relevant and easier for you. For example, you can be part of a learning community that combines English and history or technical math and fire science hydraulics. Equally important, by becoming part of a learning community, you will have a great support network provided by your teacher and classmates. Each semester, the Learning Community Program includes many linked or paired courses, providing you a friendly and innovative way to take courses that increase your fundamental skills and add to completion of your general education or degree requirements.

What is different about a Learning Community?
A Learning Community is a group of two or more classes where students and faculty simultaneously address the needs for greater intellectual interaction.

Are the Learning Communities courses transferable?
Yes, your transcript will reflect the classes as two separate courses.

What are the requirements to enroll?
You must enroll in both courses. The prerequisites are the same as if you were taking each course separately. Check with your advisor or the catalog for class prerequisites.

Are Learning Community courses more difficult?
No, you will be required to do no more work than you would in two separate classes. In fact, by connecting courses, it may actually be easier to understand the material.
