RRCC Assessment Center
Why Does RRCC Assess? Because We Want Your Success!
Being prepared for college is important and our mission is to help you reach your goals. One of the best starting points to your college career is to have your skills/knowledge assessed.
Do I need to Assess?
Colorado State Board Policy states all students need to assess in math and English for proper placement in college classes.
There are a number of ways students can show readiness. You should provide RRCC with any of the following prior to taking a placement test for evaluation. We can then help you determine if you need to assess.
- IB or AP high school course work
- ACT or SAT Scores
- CLEP or DSST exams
- UXCEL Exams
- Accuplacer College Placement Test Scores
- Community College Placement Test (CCPT) Scores
- High School Transcripts
- Prior College Course Work
If You Need to Assess
Visit the Study Guides page for information regarding assessment preparation. Preparation on your part will make a big difference on how well you do on the assessment. It is very important to review the materials there and determine if you are ready to assess. Testing is designed to be done only one time so be ready to do your best work.
Plan on assessing on two days (one session for English and one session for math). The test takes about 1 ½ hours for the Reading and Essay and 2½ hours for the Math; or about 4 hours total. You want to do your best work and not suffer from “Testing Fatigue” by doing the assessment in one sitting.
You will be asked for a photo ID and given instructions on the exam. Test scores are immediate and you will be advised on your placement. After assessing scores are put in your record, you will be able to register for classes based on your results.

We also assist students and faculty in evaluating requests for college credits for prior learning, CPL, or Portfolio credit.
