Meet Linda

"I am a 50yr old Mother of one daughter and Grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters ages 5 and 3. I decided to come back to school after my Mother passed away in 2000. At that time, I had made some bad choices which led me to re-evaluate my life and my purpose. I came to Red Rock Community College through the College Gateway Program and graduated the program successfully in Spring 2010. I decided to continue on with my education and major with a Associates of Arts in Psychology. I discovered in one of my math courses early on that I have Dyslexia and I was both devastated and relieved to finally know what was wrong with my academic skills. Once I was aware of my learning disability I was able to excel within my academic career. In May 2012 I was nominated to receive a "Women to Watch" award, and to my surprise I received that award with gratitude.

As of today I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa holding a GPA of 4.0. I am involved in community outreach to educate the others on College Gateway and what we offer former offenders. Currently I work two jobs, one is with The College Gateway Program which I help others find their passion and purpose in life. I truly believe that everyone deserves a second chance in life."
