What is a "ROCKSTAR?"
IF YOU ARE......a student at Red Rocks Community College (whether you’re thinking about registering, have just registered, are in the middle of your first year, or have been here for a while), YOU are a Rock Star! IF YOU HAVE a full time job, and are pursuing a degree to help advance or perhaps even change your career, YOU are a Rock Star! A single parent who is trying to manage the demand of getting a secondary education with the pressure and cost of parenthood, YOU are a Rock Star! THE ROCKSTAR PROGRAM was developed by...
Phi Theta Kappa members as they attempted to develop an Honors in Action project. The members were challenged with creating a project around the culture of competition within academic settings that would benefit the college. As 30 of us sat in a room and discussed how competition has affected each one of us, we realized that there was an opportunity to foster connection. We realized that while we all came from different walks of life and backgrounds, we still stood on common ground. We have each struggled to be successful students, successful wives, mothers, husbands, fathers, siblings, sons, daughters, and contributors to society.
We each were striving toward something far beyond obtaining a college degree, we are here because we are seeking change (whether we want to change the world or just change ourselves). We realized that competition is the driving force behind what has made us successful students, and that each one of us had found a variety of different on and off-campus resources to help us along the way. We also realized that there are so many students that are unaware of tools out there to help them succeed.
It is with those realizations that we decided to create something that would not only highlight our individual stories, but something that would unite us all. Rock Stars were born. The vision is to provide mentorship, assistance, and pathways towards helping everyone succeed as a Red Rocks student. We found that competing in this world did not have to be a solo endeavor, and that people are able to achieve more when they have a support system to help them. We have put together videos of people explaining their success stories, and the resources they used to get to where they are. We have put together a student-built FAQ, with the goal of providing as much information on what resources are available to foster your success as a student, make that ROCKSTAR.
