The IDEA Lab supports students to gain hands-on experience in design, making, technology and engineering.
The IDEA Lab is an open resource for all active RRCC students and staff to work on projects, engage in hands-on learning, and build community. As for what ideas you choose to bring to life, that part is up to you. You might make a final project for a class, a prototype for a student club, or brainstorm with your colleagues between classes. We welcome all academic or personal project ideas: just let us know what you have in mind, and we’ll see if we can make it happen.
Some of our available resources include:
- 3D printers
- Laser cutter
- Basic woodworking tools & crafting supplies
- Soldering station
- Hub for NASA Space Grant
Co-Pilot rule: Please ask our team prior to using any equipment! We are generally happy to “let you drive” your projects – just let us be in the car with you.
All are welcome to drop by the IDEA Lab any time during working hours! However, we strongly encourage scheduling an appointment in Navigate if you’re actively working on a project. Prior to utilizing any resources, you will need to complete the IDEA Lab waiver.
Schedule an Appointment: Log into The Rock and access Navigate. Select “Innovation & Engagement” for the Care Unit and “IDEA Lab” for the Location. Include any notes that can help us understand the scope of your project (e.g. if it’s for a specific class, if you have a deadline, what tools you’d like to use, and your level of experience.). After scheduling an appointment, make sure to check your RRCC Student Email for any follow-up messages our team may send.
IDEA Lab Waiver: Log into The Rock and find the card titled “Resources for Students.” Complete the form titled “IDEA Lab Member Request Form” and submit.
