Grievance and Appeal Procedures
If you are taking any Red Rocks Community College courses, and you have a complaint about your experience with Red Rocks Community College, you have two options:
- You can follow RRCC’s process for student complaints, which is outlined in the Student Handbook. To file an official complaint please use the Student Complaint/Grievance Form.
- If you are residing outside of Colorado while attending Red Rocks Community College, in many cases you can file a complaint in the state where you are residing. As required by federal regulations, below is a list of agencies in each state where complaints can be filed.
Before exercising either of the above options, you should know that most (if not all) external complaint processes require that the student exhaust all avenues of complaint internal to the institution before they will consider a grievance. Students may also contact the Higher Learning Commission at www.ncahlc.org, which is RRCC’s accrediting agency.
Colorado Students:
34 CFR §668.43(b) requires RRCC to provide students and prospective students with contact information for filing complaints with the state's approval or licensing entity. In Colorado, this entity is the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE), a regulatory body operated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE). The instructions for filing complaints with the Colorado Department of Higher Education can be found here.
Colorado Department of Higher Education staff can also be reached at the following phone numbers: 303.866.2723 and 303.866.4266
Note: The first requirement under Colorado Department of Higher Education guidelines is that the complainant exhausts all opportunities for resolution at the institution in question before filing a complaint with CDHE.
